The written version of this (which I did for The Mighty) got such a great response, I decided to make a short video based on it. See what you think.
Based on If You're Wondering Why I've Been in Pain So Long, on The Mighty.

Thank you for this, Sarah. Just knowing that someone somewhere gets the experience of chronic pain and the ramifications that ripple out in our lives is so helpful! I have hope that joy and contentment are still in the realm of possibility, even after 30 some years of seemingly unknowable pain, and shame, because I can't do better.

I'm glad it was helpful, Kate! I'm beginning to understand that the first step in healing for a lot of us in chronic pain is being seen in our pain and being understood. That's huge. Thanks for connecting. :-)

Beautiful video, very uplifting. It's true that the hardest thing about living with chronic pain is the misguided advice from those closest to us. It feels like a betrayal. It makes me feel so alone. It makes me shutdown and just fake "wellness".

I'm glad you found it uplifting, Jo-Lue. I can relate to your feelings when others don't understand. It can be one of the most difficult things to handle about living with pain.
